Finally a Post! (with Vincent and Kokua)

Wow, it's been a long time.  I guess the end of 2013 and the beginning of 2014 was a little busier than I thought!  Here's a quick update on what's been happening.

The Nā Mākua Invitational Christmas Gift Fair was a huge success for me.  I met lots of great people (both vendors and customers), made some money, got lots of feedback on my inventory, and some fabulous tips on more fairs to do around the Big Island.

Which lead me to finally get accepted for the Kokua Kailua Village Stroll, which is an event where they close Aliʻi Drive in Kailua-Kona for a Sunday afternoon once a month and the businesses that operate in Kailua have an opportunity to take to the streets with their wares, as do a limited number of Big Island Artists.  There is also music and dancing.  It's a wonderful, fun event, and I was accepted as a participating Artist for the first quarter of this year.  The event has been really good so far, so I plan to apply again for acceptance next quarter.  The next one is on March 16, so if you are in Kailua, stop in and say hi!  My booth is located at the beach end of the seawall near the Scandanavian Shave Ice stand & shop on the Mauka side of Aliʻi Drive.

We've also managed to squeeze in a few trips to the beach, just to remind ourselves why we are so Lucky We Live Hawai'i!

I am teaching an art class out of my home this term.  (Yay!  The dream has come true!)  So far the students are mostly third and fourth graders, but I recently was contacted by a parent of a former student in second grade, and I hope that she will be joining our class soon!  The students just finished up their own interpretations of Vincent Van Goghʻs Starry Night, and I thought I would share them with you.  I purchased this lesson from Deep Space Sparkle, as I needed a specific type of color theory lesson that tied in with a famous artist and this one fit the bill perfectly.  (Thanks Patty!)  I think the students did a great job with this lesson.  Some of them showed a lot of unexpected (and perhaps unconventional) creativity in their villages, as well...  This lesson gave us a chance to talk about Vincent Van Gogh as an artist, perspective, and the Elements of Art, as well as learn a new painting technique.

I've also started teaching private/semi-private/group art classes focused on Art Fundamentals for older students.  Contact me at heidirvx@gmail.com if youʻre interested in signing up.

Aloha!  And hereʻs hoping Iʻll be able to post again soon!
